Effective Copywriting Skills and Email Marketing Skills

smart-725843_640This past month or so I have been having a blast learning new copywriting skills. I have been writing my sales page for my product, and as an Internet Marketer you defiantly need some basic copywriting skills. Because even if you don’t write your own copy the basic skills of any copywriter or any copy you see, are transferable, through your email marketing or even getting a friend to try something new.

Now I just want to say off the bat here, I am no expert on copywriting. I just want to share with you, here today, or reinforce what you already know, is the basics skills of copywriting and how you can transfer this in your email marketing in the hope you make more money.

Now, a technique good copywriters’ use is called A.I.D.A. This stands for:

A – Attention

I – Interest

D – Desire

A – Action

Your attention in your sales page would be the headline, for your email marketing will be your subject line.

Your I for interest can be a little story about the subject line.

The D for Desire in your copy would be to create a desire for your product you are offering, and in your email marketing would be to create a desire for the affiliate product or service or webinar you are offering.

And finally the ultimate letter, Action. When your Attention, Interest and Desire has been done correctly, then the Action will be easy. In your copy this is obvious, is to point the reader to the BUY IT NOW button and getting them to buy your product. And in your email marketing would to get your reader to click on the link.

Using this technique correctly will hopefully see your sales improved.

Hope you enjoyed this short post, please let me know in comment below and your little tips and trick you use to get your conversion rates higher 🙂

To Your Success,

Keeping AIDA in mind will certainly enhance our ability to make sure we cover those important four areas in email marketing, writing a sales letter, or as you mentioned, even persuading a friend to buy something. It answers the question of What’s In It For Me? (WIIFM). Thank you, Tasleem.

      Hi Yvonne,

Your welcome, thank you for your comment, yes it does definitely answer the WIIFM or what’s in it for your customer question, as we should all be asking that question when writing our copy. Thanks 🙂

    Hi Tasleem

I think you have made the best decision to start learning about copywriting. I think this is a skill all online business owners or bloggers should learn before all else.

The reality is that most of us start off learning WordPress, then how to do our own graphics, SEO and list building, but our copy is the last thing we worry about.

      Hi Duane,

So true, I unfortunately went through that process of learning about WordPress, SEO, graphics etc, and now that I have started to learn more about copywriting I realised I should have been learning this first.

    Hi Tasleem,

Copywriting is something I find hard!

I have to force myself to think of writing about Benefits more than Features. I was taught a little formula to help with WIIFM….

    “Feature” which means that “Benefit”

e.g. “WordPress allows you to add many free plugins” which means that “you can tailor the basic platform to your own needs”.

Hope that may be a useful tip for someone,

    Joy

  • Hi Tasleem,

I learnt long ago that copywrighting isn’t one of my greatest skill sets, so it’s one of those tasks that gets outsourced

    Hi Tasleem,

Copywriting is a true art that takes time to perfect. You are so right about the headline. I found a free online tool that rates the EMV (emotional marketing value) of headlines. I try to always run my headlines through it to see how they fair. I thought your readers might enjoy checking it out.
