When Self Doubt begins . . . . .

self-doubt-424968_640When you have to make changes in your life, now I am not talking about small changes we can deal with, but BIG changes that require you to get out of your comfort zone

That is when you start to hear a small voice whispering negative thoughts in your ear. At the beginning of my online journey I would hear him whispering “I’m going to fail”, “I’m not good enough” or “no one is going to buy from me” or “I can’t make a brilliant product” This whispering, this self-doubt is creeping and it is one of the reasons why so many people fail online BEFORE they even start.

But this week for some reason it has started to creep up again my own self-doubt, it’s stopping me to achieve this week’s task I have set myself to do.

I had just started to research in to a new market and as I was researching a barrel load of “What ifs?” flooded my head. . . . . .

  • “What if people don’t buy my product?”
  • “What if I can’t produce a quality product?”
  • “What if people don’t like the way I look?”
  • “What if my voice sounds weird?”
  • “What if I run out ideas and topics?”
  • “What if I fail?”

“When you doubt your power, you give power to your doubt.” – Honore de Balzac

Doubt is a very powerful thing, it hold us back, it stops us achieving our goals in life. It can make us lead a life where we are living by someone else’s expectations, dreams and desires, NOT our own.

But what can we do to eliminate this self-doubt within ourselves?

Here are a few tips to help you achieve more in your life and business:

Recognizing as well as relieving your doubts

Figuring out how to recognize when your self-talk gets ugly is vital. When you hear yourself saying, “I can’t,” or, “I don’t have a clue,” or, “Suppose it is not possible that….,” a red warning ought to go up.

As an alternative to telling yourself, “I can’t do Y,” say, “I can’t do Y yet I’m taking a shot at it.”

Then again in the event that you begin thinking, “What if I fail?” you can react by saying, “Then I’ll attempt it again.

Doing this changes a negative circumstance into an opportunity for development. It’s about providing for yourself a possibility.

Quit listening to toxic people.

Toxic people slowly poison your mind to a condition of hopelessness. Their perception of the world is that everything is impossible or a waste of time, and they want others to think the same way, they don’t want others to be better than them or succeed.

Don’t let their toxicity take away your drive, energy and hope.

Instead surround yourself with positive, supportive and energetic people. They will bring out the best in you, inspire you to achieve and take away your darkest fears and doubts.

Think about your achievements

This can be a hard one when you are down at your lowest. But everyone has achieved something at some point in their lives. It doesn’t matter small or how big it was focus on how it made you feel when you had achieved your goal. This will help you lift your spirits and take away the darkness and doubts.

Treat yourself with love and kindness

We spend so much time being our worst enemy instead of being your own best friend. If your best friend or your loved one had self-doubt and the above what ifs?, about applying for a job you knew they would be idea for, what would you say to them? Hopefully you would try and ease their self-doubt. If we can do it for others then, why do we not do it for ourselves?

You don’t have to mentally torture yourself, starting an online business is already hard enough as it is don’t add to it!! Be kind to yourself as you would be to a friend.

Allow yourself permission to try…and try again.

Self – Doubt never disappears but over time and practice you can get better at tuning it out. Every time you reach out of your comfort zone to strive for something better, it will be there to meet you. Putting it into perspective you will learn not to fear it.

Remember your doubts are just your thoughts NOT your future.

Until Next Time . . . .

    Hi Tasleem

Very relevant tips for me at the moment!

I am reminded that someone once told me I would be as unkind to my worst enemy as I sometimes was to myself. Don’t worry – I am working on being kind to myself 🙂

We can all do with a reminder though.

    Have a great week, Joy

Very good post and one that I can definitely relate to very closely especially all your what if questions you posted. This was exactly what went through my head for so long and really held me back. The only way I managed to overcome the feeling of doubt and all those what if questions being true was to simply charge at them full speed and after the impact, I would reassess the situation again, and do you know what, I’ve never looked back so I hope that if you feel this way right now, my best advice is to just out there and give it everything you’ve got and don’t look back, just keep going!
