The Key to Success . . .

woman-446670_640Okay, first and foremost I want to say sorry for not posting anything lately. A lot of personal things have been going on and something I am very excited about, is that I have been very busy preparing for my launch that will be happening next month. But there were some things I couldn’t avoid not doing like the mundane tasks of renewing my insurance. 🙁

I had to phone the company to negotiate the price of my renewal of my white goods insurance policy. What a headache I have to admit, they were refusing to bring the price down. The conversation went on the lines of, something like this:

Me: Hi, I’m phoning to ask if you can lower the price of my white goods insurance as I am finding it too hard to pay for it this year

Insurance representative: Okay let’s see what I can do for you, please just hold the line – a few minutes later – sorry that’s the best price we can do.

Me: Is there nothing you can do? I have been a long standing customer of yours.

Insurance representative: No sorry.

Me: Are you sure?

Insurance representative: Yeah, you have had a few claims on your goods this year, so it’s really hard to bring the price down.

Me: But we have 4 appliances with you?

Okay now I’m not going to narrate the full 15 minute conversation here but after some tough negotiation and persistence I managed to get the price down to what I was paying last year, so mission accomplished I think. 🙂

After the excitement of saving a hundred dollars settled down, I started thinking, if I gave up and gave in to the representatives nos and excuses I would not have achieved what I set out to do, which was save on my insurance. I would have been paying more for it or would have to have cancelled the policy I was not have been in a position to pay for it any more.

How many times have we started something in our business or in our lives that we have talked ourselves out of or let others talk us out of and then give up?

The lesson here: Is not to give up on your dreams or goals, yes you will have bumps on the way and problems but if you persist and persist you will have a break through even if you think it’s impossible. And I personally think that is key to your Success.

If someone said to you to knock down a tree with your bare hands you will think it’s impossible, if you hit the tree 100 times in different places what impact will you have on it? But if you hit the tree 100 times in the same place would you be able to break through it?

Let me know your thoughts in the comment below.

I agree. It is so easy to just get frustrated and give up. But you just have to keep moving forward.

Thank you for your comment Roy, it’s so true, I do think people tend to give up on their first or second hurdle.

  • Great content as always Tasleem, I think the whole thing about giving up gets better with age, I think as we age we become mentally resilient meaning that we don’t give in as easily as we do in our younger years.

    Hi Tasleem,

Good to catch up with you again and I’m excited to hear about your product launch, and will be looking forward to hearing about it.

Funny you should have written about renewing your insurance policy (well done by the way) because I also wrote about an experience that I had when renewing my policy.

My complaint was about how they rewarded customer loyalty. It had a very different outcome to yours – but the good news is that I still ended up saving money.

Good luck with your launch, and we must keep in touch.

Really enjoyed this Tasleem as it highlights something that many online marketers must be aware of in order to succeed.

We have to be prepared to keep fighting for our goals and dreams despite the hurdles we face.

Just last month when I was preparing for a product launch my domains got blacklisted and my emails blocked because of some malicious bot that infected my IP address. The timing was horrible and email marketing is my main source of income.

So I could not give up and give in like so many others may do – had to really negotiate hard with my hosting company and pushed them to quickly remove the spam bot and then reinstate my domains.

So thanks for sharing a key principle for success

    Hi Tasleem,

Those were some very successful 15 minutes of your time because you managed to do what you set out to do: get the price down. Very important lesson as we all find excuses to give up from time to time and your little story proves we shouldn’t. Once we set a goal we should never give up until it is achieved.
